Introduction to Botany

This two-day introductory course taught by botanists Nick Jensen and Sophie Winitsky will provide an overview of the science of botany. Concepts covered will include morphology, evolution, taxonomy, and ecology.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to identify basic plant parts and structures, and will have learned how scientists organize and study plant diversity. By emphasizing the context of plants in natural habitats and their vital role in human society, participants will gain a greater appreciation of the plants found all around us.

The course will include lectures, labs, short walks at RSABG, and a half-day field trip to Huntington Botanic Garden.

Saturday and Sunday, September 23 and 24, 2017, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

$150.00 for the public, $125.00 for RSABG members

Please meet at the East Classroom in the main Administrative Building.

Registration is required.

You may register through our website or at our front kiosk.

The East Classroom and garden trails are wheel chair accessible.

Please note our Cancellation Policy in effect beginning February 28, 2017:

 

In the case that a fee-based class or workshop is cancelled, Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden will refund the full (100%) payment.

 

If a registered and paid participant withdraws from the class 72 hours or more prior to the beginning of the event, class, or workshop a full refund will be issued.

 

If a registered and paid participant withdraws more than 24 hours but less than 72 hours before the beginning of the class, event, or workshop a 50% refund will be issued.

 

If a registered and paid participant withdraws less than 24 hours before the class, or is a ‘no-show’ on the day of the event, class, or workshop, no refund will be issued.

 

This Refund Policy applies to all Community Education Classes requiring payment starting February 28, 2017.
