Introduction to Birding

Birdwatching is a wonderful way to connect with nature, get a breath of fresh air, and learn a little more about the diverse bird populations in your area. Dive into the wonderful world of birding as you learn the basics of getting to know the birds around you. You will establish a foundation for an enriching hobby that will give you a lifetime of joy!

Join us virtually on Saturday, February 13th at 1pm as Tina Stoner, President of Pomona Valley Audubon Society, walks you through how to use the tools of the trade (binoculars and field guides), keeping records, and how to identify birds by using the four fundamentals of birding. Have your binoculars and field guides handy for the class if you have them. Put your newly acquired skills into practice with a birdwatching visit to the Garden. All birding levels encouraged to join!

Tina has been a lover of nature and wildlife her whole life but didn’t begin birding until late 2008. She is now the President of the Pomona Valley Audubon Society (our local chapter of the National Audubon Society) where she helps introduce the public to the wonderful world of birds. She leads birding field trips, teaches local Girl Scouts about the birds they see at Camp La Casita, and shares her passion for birds and their habitats at events like the Village Venture Festival and Earth Day in Claremont, as well as at Things That Go Bump in the Night and the Family Bird Festival at CalBG. She also teaches birding for the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program in California. Find out more information about the Pomona Valley Audubon Society and Tina’s work at www.pomonavalleyaudubon.org.
